Here are two of my questions:

#1. I'm thingking of buying a CM4 gas mask. My question is: do all filters fit this mask? I have never had a gas mask before.

#2. If a filter (filled with active coal) is full (sucked up a lot of dust for example), can you still breathe through it?

not all filters will fit this mask, as will be the case with any mask.

This mask uses 40mm NATO threads for its fitting, which is by far the most popular size for masks worldwide. Not all masks use it, but many do.

Any 40mm NATO thread size filter should fit this mask.

Ideally you'd want a prefilter to take care of dust. the charcoal should be used for whatever toxins are in the air that the filter is rated for.

The C4 is a STANAG 4155 mask, which means that it fits 40mm threaded NATO and industrial DIN canisters perfectly. These filters should be quite easy for you to acquire (although make sure you choose an appropriate non-expired filter if you intend to use it for protection). 40mm Eastern bloc GOST filters will also fit, but may be a little looser due to the differing thread pitch.

Military CBRN filters don't consist entirely of activated carbon. The first layer is a particulate filter, which is where dust will be stopped. Particulate filters don't saturate like activated carbon does, but breathing resistance will increase with more dust in it.

C4? CM4. How did I miss that? Invert my filter advice. GOST will fit, STANAG and DIN may not properly.
